Color:Orange This yard gnome portraits a bearded dwarf standing and making the V sign with his right arm stretched in front of him. This yard gnome statue is an original creation of Ottmar Horl in 2012. The artist modeled this dwarf as a response to the regular riots instigated by hooligans after the football games. The Victory Gnome symbolizes a communicative impulse as well as a supporters’ trophy for peaceful interaction. The V sign has different hand gestures: one with the palm faced outwards and another one with the palm inwards. The V-sign has various interpretations, depending its representations. In January 1941, former Belgian Minister of Justice and director of the Belgian French-speaking broadcasts on the BBC suggested in a broadcast that Belgians use a V for Victoire (French word for Victory”) as a rallying emblem during World War II. Within weeks chalked up, Vs began appearing on walls throughout Belgium, the Netherlands, and northern France. By July 1941, the typical use of the letter V had spread through occupied Europe. Nowadays, the gesture is most widely uses to express a feeling of happiness whether using it palm facing outward or palm facing forward. The sign also means: Peace.
